Nothing nicer than a private room in hotel for internet access
Well, I know it has been ages since my last update on the site - but that has been with good cause. Work has been extremely busy and I've gotten to do some fun stuff, which I'll be able to blab about here once its gone public. So busy in fact I almost didn't sort out my trip to Canada. Fortunately, an ever-brilliantly-organised girlfriend reminded me to get in contact with the travel agents (Clondalking Travel, I can't recommend them enough) and organise a new passport after losing my last one.
The whole passport affair was a bit of a bedacle. Being the complete eejit that I am, I managed somehow in the past 3 months to misplace my passport but didn't notice until, um, last Monday! So I did the usual and brought an out of date passport to the Garda station, filled out a lost passport form which the Garda dutifully signed... but he wouldn't sign my PAS 1 form because he didn't think I looked like my old photo (that'll teach me to go without shaving for 3 or 4 days). This led to me having to go get a brith cert, then go to another Garda Station, and the finally (sneaking in s the place closed) I made it to the passport office. Never again!
Skipping on... as I write this I am in Toronto in Canada, after taking a flight from Dublin via London Heathrow. In about an hour I'll be catching my flight to Victoria but right now I'm enjoying the luxury of sitting in a private room in the Sheraton hotel surfing the internet, calling home etc. Why don't I just use a public net access terminal? Because the poxy webmail service that comes with my server needlessly opens new windows when you log in - and public net access terminals don't support multiple windows. Aaaarrgh! Still, CA$20 for unlimited usage isn't a bad price, and the service here is excellent =)
Lots more to tell, but I'm running out of time. Blog updates will be back to their old frequency, but hopefully with a lot more interesting things to say once I start in UVIC on Monday. Wish me luck!
